Happy boy!

This is my latest Emma’s Diary Parent Blog post, some content may be repeated..

Monday will be J’s 8th week, the time is really flying! Our little baby is growing in every sense of the word.  The strength in him really is phenomenal for a six week old; if he doesn’t want to be in a certain position, he’ll move until he’s where he wants to be! It’s nice to see him smiling more frequently and there have been plenty of coos and gurgles too.  His head control is almost perfect and he’s also decided he likes standing up, only being cradled when he’s sleepy, otherwise he’s bolt upright with his little feet pushing down hard on your thighs! He’s going to be a very big boy.

He’s settled into his cot very well.  The Moses basket was getting a bit too small for him and as he’s a sleep-shuffler he’d often wake screaming because he’d shuffled too far and was squished firm into the edge of it. J has decided he is a tummy sleeper, which was nerve-wrecking to start with. To put our minds at rest a little we purchased a Breathing Monitor as it offers that extra peace of mind and works very well!

We’re still doing both breast and bottle feeds.  He is a very hungry baby and spends a lot of time ‘on the boob’. Considering Loz is working full time at home she’s doing brilliantly with breastfeeding.  I do like being able to help with the feeding now; it helped me bond more with G when I fed her and it’s doing the the same with J.

On Monday we’ve got the two month immunisations which should be interesting.  I’m wondering how J will react.  I know some babies are fine, some get crabby and upset, and others get a fever.  I recall G was a bit feverish and sleepy and with this in mind, the ear thermometer and baby Calpol is on standby!

It was also my first Fathers Day as a dad of two last weekend which was lovely.  It was strange not waking up with G or J with me. G was with her Mum until lunchtime and Loz had spent the night away with J and her Mum.  This enabled me to spend the Saturday night ‘Wetting the Baby’s Head’ – a night I’ve documented (too) well on my blog! When G and J arrived home I got my cards and presents – I think the best present was a ‘comic’ G had made about being a big sister – you can see it here.

The only ‘problem’ J seems to have is bogies!  His nose is constantly blocked by massive chunks of nose goo and it sometimes disrupts feeding as he can’t breathe through his nose.  He often gets frustrated because he is hungry, starts feeding and then can’t breathe properly, so stops feeding and remembers he is hungry. We’ve tried all sorts to get them out: saline drops, nasal aspirator, and a good old fashion poke with a scrunched up tissue.  Do you have any bogey removing tips?
