This is my latest Emma’s Diary Blog..

J is now two and a half months old and it feels like the dust is settling. We’ve got a routine (of sorts) where he’s going to bed around 9-9.30pm, wanting a feed around 3 or 4am and then going back to sleep until 7am ish. I’m pretty pleased with that. There are a few nights where he’ll deviate, but mostly that’s the routine. He does have lots of little naps throughout the day too, 30 mins here or an hour there, so Loz and I are just about keeping up with work which is a relief!

He had his two month immunisations a few weeks ago and they went largely without incident. He squawked with each jab but calmed down pretty quickly. The following days after he seemed a bit grumpier than normal but he didn’t have a fever and wasn’t particularly unwell, just a little out of sorts.

I’d forgotten just how quickly babies grow out of clothes and he’s now into the 3-6 month stuff! Whilst J isn’t a massively chubby baby, he’s very long, meaning the new clothes fit nicely length-wise but they are a bit ‘flappy’ around his belly. The only problem with his rapid growth is that he’s not been able to wear some of the beautiful clothes family and friends have got us so they’ve been packed away ‘just in case’ we decide on baby Hakes number two (or technically, number three!). We’ve not really been putting him in ‘outfits’ as such, perhaps the odd bits and pieces here and there, but he’s mostly a baby-grow and vest kinda chap at the moment.

I’m still amazed at J’s development. He enjoys standing up and he’s also occasionally starting to ‘assume the position’ when he’s on his tummy. When I looked on the baby monitor last week I was shocked to see him, head up and looking wistfully down the camera! Apparently I was a very early crawler so maybe he’s got some of those genes in him. He’s also more aware of the rattly toys on his bouncer; he’ll happily coo at them and then smack them around with his hand if they aren’t entertaining him.

Last week was G’s 9th birthday. We had a party for her over the weekend which J largely slept through. We had managed to get J to hold a pen and he scribbled on her birthday card. G was over the moon her little brother had signed the card for her and I think her favourite present was the sheer amount of smiles she got from J. He really does beam at her when she’s around, it’s very sweet! It’s nice that he’s starting to smile and giggle and we’re seeing a bit more of his personality come through.
