It’s all starting to go wrong.
My phone was received by Unipart Logistics, Three UK’s ‘Repair’ Company at 7am this morning, 20 minutes later it was ‘in for repair’ – impressive. But then, two hours later, this obscure note from the engineer appeared in the repair tracker.
Repair cost by smart – Quote 30.63, WHEN LIQUID INGRESS TO USB SOCKET WAS FOUND AND THE CUSTOMER DID NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT CHARGING/POWER/SWITCHING OFF PROBLEM
What does that even mean?!
It seems to suggest there has been water ingress in the USB socket, which for a phone that is largely in my hand, in my pocket, on my desk, or on my bedside table seems that seem unlikely. It also suggests they are intending to charge me for this fictional water damage too. The phone is fucked, I’m guessing the main board is dead, if there were water damage that caused this (which there hasn’t been) the moisture indicator inside the battery compartment would show this too (it didn’t). As the main board is behind the battery, not the USB Socket.
That’s all the information I have at the moment, no official word from Unipart or Three as to whether I WILL be charged, I’m not a happy bunny though.
The comments in this BitterWallet thread suggest It common theme of Water Damage being used to not repair phones by Three and other retailers..
