As I mentioned last week, I was invited to the offices of Bite PR for #harmandads, an event for some of the Daddy Bloggers to get together, eat pizza, drink beer, and play with some new audio equipment. We had a short introduction to each product on display, and then allowed to have a play with it, and ask any questions we had. I must admit, I’m not the biggest audiophile, I like my Onkyo Amp, and I’m pleased with my Jamo speakers, i was recently blown away by the awesome Nokia Monster Purity Pro headphones but that’s about all I know! In this, and the subsequent parts I’ll do a quick ‘look’ at all of the products we were shown.

20130529_192047The first product we looked at was JBL Micro Wireless, this tiny unit has a rechargeable battery that will allow 5 hours of music playback through the mono speaker. It’s small size and mono speaker shouldn’t put you off, it does have a fair bit of punch for a pocket sized speaker. It also has an integrated 3.5mm cable so you can plug it into non-Bluetooth devices, this also allows you to daisy chain several of them together for a ‘bigger’ sound. It also comes in a range of colours too.

Next up was the JBL Flip, a funky little stereo bluetooth speaker system, again with a 5 hour rechargeable battery. The flip also has a built in microphone, so you are able to use it for calls on your mobile, or for Skype on a laptop. The dual drivers and DSP in this small tube shaped speaker produce a cracking sound, and a lot of the Dads seemed shocked at the volume that could be produced from such a small unit. It was cranked all the way to ’11’ and the sound was loud, and not distorted – fabulous! This system would be awesome for a traveling sales person presenting from their laptop or tablet to boost the sound. It can be used stood up, or lying down too and it comes in a selection of colours.

20130529_192113Next up was a real favourite of mine, the JBL Charge, it’s essentially a ‘beefed up’ version of the JBL Flip, offering a similarly specced dual driver and DSP. With the JBL Charge though the internal 6000Mah battery, allows 12 hours of music playback AND also will charge your phone or device through a USB socket. Making it perfect to take away camping, or at a festival, the JBL rep said it could charge an iPhone from dead in an hour and a half, not bad! It also has the call answer button like the smaller JBL Flip so you can use it for taking calls on your mobile or using Skype on a laptop. Once again, when cranked up to ridiculous volumes the JBL Charge performed admirably, and made an awesome, distortion free sound. I would LOVE one of these little guys, and I’m going to put it on my Amazon Wish List! 🙂
