Long time readers of the blog will know that I’m a Theme Park nut, and as well as going on all the rides possible, I really like kicking back and spending the night in the resort hotels. Usually there’s some form of entertainment for the kids, and with the Merlin Pass I have, I get to drink a few beers and 20% off the price.

Chessington have had a hotel for years, I actually went there with G when she was three for a bit of a treat, it was lovely spending a few days alone making a fuss with her, and the first time I’d taken her ‘out for dinner’. My lasting memory was her being in the hotel restaurant in her pretty dress, with it hitched up and showing the other diners her knickers.

Roll forward to 2014 and on the 11th August, the brand new Chessington Azteca Hotel opens its doors to families seeking thrills in the theme park and adventures in the Zoo! The lovely folks at Chessington have offered the Mossters and me a stay at the Chessington Azteca Hotel next week before it officially opens to the public and I cannot WAIT!

The Chessington Azteca Hotel boasts 69 bedrooms, across three floors. The rooms are suitable for families of five, with a separate sleeping area with bunk beds and a pull-out bed for the kids, decked out with all the essentials a family will need.

There are three different styles of themed rooms –

1 – Discovery Room

2 – Temple Treasure Room

3 – Temple Summit Room

I’ve a feeling the rooms will be themed to a similar quality of those at LEGOLAND Windsor and also the Moon Voyager Rooms at Alton Towers, I’ll report back with a tonne of photos!

Around the rest of the hotel there will be the ‘Savannah Splash Pool and Gym’ which is described as ‘an oasis in the middle of an African Savannah, perfect for families to go wild in an immersive water splash play area’.

Of course a hotel needs a restaurant and bar, and this is served perfectly by the ‘Temple Restaurant and Bar’, which looks AWESOME –

A unique and interactive dining experience set in the heart of a mystical ancient temple, where a fountain that was once the life force of the jungle is protected by the wildlife that call it home.

With the underground carefully looked after by leaf cutter ants, exotic trees guarded by monkeys, the skies protected by an array of birds and the rivers guarded by piranhas, this is a wild and magical setting like no other.

It sounds like it’s a buffet place similar to ‘Bricks’ in the LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel, which is fabulous for kids and adults alike, I can’t wait to try it out!

Obviously it’s great to see the artists impressions of the Hotel, but I’m really looking forward to seeing the real thing, and coming home with a shedload of photos and memories to share with you all. We’re also getting a day in the theme park too, so it will be interesting to see if Chessington can steal the crown from LEGOLAND being my favourite family day out in 2014 – We shall see!

It will also be my first solo night away with the Kids, I’ve never done it before, hopefully Chessington and the Azteca Hotel will be ‘lone parent friendly’.
