Today is the kind of day I really dislike the social networks.
It’s like a day when someone really famous or influential dies and seemingly everyone feels the desire to pass comment or judgement on the situation. It’s like everyone thinks they are the press department at Buckingham Palace or No. 10, or worse still the leader of their own independent state, and ‘the people’ are waiting desperately for a comment.
Today is worse though.
I remember when we went to the Polls five years ago, it was exactly the same. Twitter is an endless stream of..
“Don’t forget to vote today”
“If you don’t vote, you’ve no right to complain”
“Polls close at 10pm”
“Women fought for the right to vote, make sure you do”
“I’m voting for XYZ”
On repeat endlessly, like a Scooby Doo background
Facebook is just the same, although punctuated with the standard moans and ‘wise words’ instagrammed on a beach scene.
The election has been a ‘thing’ for months, occupying the news and creeping more into popular culture on a daily basis?
WHY would ANYONE forget it’s the election ?
STOP TELLING PEOPLE TO VOTE!! We’re adults!
This made me laugh. I actually voted for the first time. I was disappointed there were no fireworks going off to celebrate this momentous occasion, but pleasantly surprised there was tea and cake!
Yes yes yes.
It’s driving me crazy that it’s all in see today, even fb is pushing it in our faces.
I’ve voted every year since I was 18 but don’t feel the need to tell everyone.
You just did
