Smart watches have been around for a while now, and, whilst on the whole they ‘act’ smart – they don’t always LOOK smart. It’s definitely improving though, my trusty Galaxy Gear that I’ve rocked for over a year now is fantastic, but looks a little… Meh.

But, there’s a new watch on the block that’s meant to be awesome, and look classy too, and now – I’m in central London at a swanky hotel for the launch of the Huawei Watch. Starting at £279 for the basic model and going up to £369 for the top model, it’s certainly not cheap, but it’s certainly got a premium look, to match the premium price tag.

Huawei Watch-124

The Huawei Watch has taken its design and inspiration from traditional wrist watches and equals any premium timepiece. It measures 42mm in diameter, the traditional dimension for wristwatches, and has a fully circular face with its crown located at the two o’clock position. The Huawei Watch features a fully circular 1.4-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED display, coated in scratch-proof sapphire crystal, the favoured choice among Swiss watch manufacturers. Encased in a cold-forged stainless steel frame, the watch screen boasts a 400 x 400 pixels resolution in 286 ppi at a 10,000:1 high contrast ratio, making it the most vibrant Android Wear smartwatch to date.

They certainly look the part, and boast the following features –

  • Powered by Android Wear™, enabling users to stay connected with instant alerts for calls, texts, instant messages and emails
  • Bluetooth connectivity with wireless headphones and offline music download support
  • Voice commands to start and control music and to search for and navigate to destinations
  • Locate missing phones with the “find my phone” function
  • Compatible with both Android and iOS devices
  • Heart rate monitor sensor (PPG sensor), which protrudes slightly, to accurately measure heart rates
  • 6-Axis motion sensor with a gyroscope and accelerometer, which can distinguish between different physical activities
  • All the models are available from the vMall and Selfridges online, with a smaller selection in-store at Selfridges, and the ‘mid range’ model available on the Google Play store.

I’m hoping this watch is as good as it looks, and will be getting one for a full review VERY soon – in the meantime, if you’ve got any questions – comment below and I’ll try and get them answered!
