I’ve been a LEGO fan for years, and the kids have inherited my massive tub of LEGO that was also used by my Mum as a child. I dread to think how many things each piece has been a part of over the years, countless buildings, and structures! A few weeks ago the nice folks at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort invited all of their Ambassadors to the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Hotel for the launch of the LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster and LEGO Nexo Knights sets.

Nexo Knights 4D Movie

Before taking a look at the new sets, we were treated to a look a the new 4D LEGO Nexo Knights Movie in the park, this is running along The LEGO Movie 4D experience. It’s a fantastic 4D film that will entertain the youngest to the eldest LEGO fans.

The brand new 12 minute film is the latest way for children to interact with the NEXO KNIGHTS innovative world. More than 170 shields can be found across various touchpoints including online, on LEGO sets and by watching the TV series; these shields can be scanned onto the Merlok 2.0 app, upgrading players’ powers to help the Knights fight marauding monsters.

After the movie we retreated to the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Hotel Conference Suite for a look the the LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster set and some of the LEGO Nexo Knights sets.

LEGO Friends Amusement Park

I must admit, I’ve always felt a bit ‘meh’ about the concept of LEGO Friends – it’s clearly aimed at girls. The beauty of LEGO is that it’s genderless and appeals to boys and girls. LEGO Friends to me, felt like it was trying too hard to appeal to girls. Looking at the new sets, including the LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster, Bumper Cars, Space Ride and Hot Dog Van I think the appeal is broader.

These are the sort of sets I would have LOVED to have had as a child, I always wanted to build ‘rides’ with my Lego and could never quite perfect it. Looking at all the LEGO Friends Amusement Park sets, my inner child was screaming at me to hunt them down and buy them immediately!

Nexo Knights

I must admit, I’d never really seen the Nexo Knights sets before and they looked tremendous fun the sets like The Fortrex and Jestro’s Volcano Lair are wonderful. I know both of the kids would love building and playing with these. I do feel a little strange about LEGO being used for ‘battles’ and faux violence, but kids love it!

Play time!

I was convinced G wouldn’t want to TOUCH the LEGO Friends Amusement Park Hot Dog Van set we bought home from the event. I was wrong though, despite the pink and girlie appearance, they both enjoyed assembling their vans, and ‘selling hotdogs’ to the other figures. The Nexo Knights Choas Catapult didn’t seem to capture their imagination for quite so long. I think it was annoying having to find the ‘fire stones’ from underneath / around furniture – it’s surprising how far they fly! Again, the boring grown up in me wasn’t overly keen on LEGO ‘flames’ flying around but they were happy!

Disclaimer – I am a LEGOLAND Family Ambassador, and as such I will be invited to events to see the latest the park has to offer in return for tickets. I was gifted a set of tickets to the park in return for my honest opinion. LEGOLAND Windsor Resort have had no editorial control on this piece, and all words are my own.
