It’s fast approaching one of my favourite times of the year in the UK Theme Park industry – HALLOWEEN. Thorpe Park Resort have already shown what’s in their line up. Now, Alton Towers Resort have shown their hand with the Alton Towers Scarefest 2017 line up!
If reading through the line up is too much of a drag, I’ve summed it all up in this handy video! If you want to read full details of the Alton Towers Scarefest 2017, carry on past the video!
The Line Up
The first scare maze is BRAND NEW! The Welcoming: Be Chosen will provide a first glimpse into the Resort’s new attraction for 2018, currently code-named ‘Secret Weapon 8’.
The woods surrounding the village of Alton harbor a mysterious group, which until recent sightings were unseen by the modern world. Whispers around the village say that the group are angered by people abusing the world’s natural resources and the rapid advance of technology. Every year the secluded group host a festival to celebrate their own interpretation of Halloween – paying homage to the earth and celebrating the crossover between the living world and the dead. The group have recently infiltrated the Alton Towers Resort and for the first time are allowing outsiders to celebrate with them. But what part will ‘the outsiders’ (the general public) play in this ritual?
Next up on the line up is a maze that came to the resort in 2016, and I LOVED it! I’m happy to announce that Altonville Mine Tours reopen for the Alton Towers Scarefest 2017 !
This year they’ve extended the tour into newly discovered depths of the mine. Altonville Mine Tours will see guests taken on a tour deep underground which holds a deep dark secret. Those brave enough can head to ‘Altonville’ and enter the, damp disused mine, which is believed to have once been home to a family of village outcasts. Nicknamed the ‘Skin Snatchers’ by local residents, their spine-chilling secret is about to be unearthed. Altonville Mine Tours looks forward to welcoming you – they always welcome new faces. Hopefully you won’t be scared out of your skin!
An old favourite returns!
The now iconic Terror of the Towers is BACK for Alton Towers Scarefest 2017! The award-winning ‘Terror of the Towers: What Lies Within’ maze returns and this year the scares have been ramped up like never before. For those who dare enter the undiscovered passageways of Gothic towers, just beware of what lies within!
One of the darkest Scare Mazes I’ve ever encountered returns – Sub Species. Set in a post-apocalyptic, sewer dwelling community have been infested by a species from another world. In order to survive, they appease the creature’s hunger by sacrificing innocent people from the surface. However, over time, insanity has twisted the feeding ritual into a sick contest. Your demise is now their entertainment. This year find your way through the underground system with new routes to take but which will you choose? Let the death race begin! This maze has multiple exit routes, none of them an easy option.
All of the Alton Towers Scarefest 2017 Scare Mazes are only suitable for those aged 15 and over. The aren’t for those younger AT ALL.
It’s not all big scares though..
Alton Towers is known for being family friendly, with this is mind, there are some attractions aimed at a younger audience.
The MASSIVELY popular House of Monsters is back! Adventurers join an up and coming online vlogger who has turned into somewhat of a new-age monster hunter. He is on a modern-day quest to discover the truth about monsters and his trail has led him to what is believed to be a disused house. But is it a case of mistaken identity or has he really discovered a group of 21st century ghouls?
All of these mazes cost extra on top your admission price. Check out the Alton Towers website for more details! The rest of the line up is completely free though!
The Trick or Treat stage will be back up and families can enjoy a range of live entertainment from the park’s own cast of silly spooks – the Freaky Four. They are performing energetic live shows perfect for younger guests, including Skelvin’s Spooky Storytime, Phil & Franklyn’s Ghoul School, and Patch’s Trick-Or-Treat Party, throughout the day and into the evening.
The Alton Ancestors have risen from the grave once more and returned to their old stomping grounds. They can be found flashmobbing Towers Street in the morning before retiring to Gloomy Wood later on. Learn their moves and join in!
The circus themed Freak Show scare zone will be back and scaring guests walking through when night falls. Dare you walk amongst the fascinating characters? Be careful not to get too close!!
Rides in the Dark
The icing on the Alton Towers Scarefest 2017 cake is the fact that most rides are open until 9pm. Alton Towers has some of the best rollercoasters in the world, and there is nothing like flying around Nemesis in the dark. Even if you don’t want to shell out for the scare mazes, you can stay till 9pm and enjoy the rides!
I’m heading to the Alton Towers Scarefest 2017 for the press preview night, so you’ll hear first how Alton Towers have done this year. They’ve not let me down yet!
