It looks like the rumours are true – in 2019 The Alton Towers Dungeon will open to the public at Alton Towers Resort!
This page has just appeared on the Alton Towers website, allowing visitors to sign up for more information. There’s very little information known right now about The Alton Towers Dungeon, the park haven’t yet sent an official release.
Where will The Alton Towers Dungeon be located?
However if rumours are true, The Alton Towers Dungeon could be inside the old Charlie and the Chocolate Factory / Toyland Tours building. This building has been fenced off for several seasons now after the IP deal with the Roald Dahl estate ended.
In theory this could suggest that the old boat ride system could be utilised for The Alton Towers Dungeon. The theming of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was pretty sparse at best, so it wouldn’t be a massive undertaking to convert this into The Alton Towers Dungeon. The London Dungeon actually has a boat ride too, taking you ‘along the Thames’ to ‘be executed’, so The Dungeon brand certainly has form for a boat ride!
It’s rumoured that recruitment has started for actors for The Alton Towers Dungeon too, which is interesting. There was a pre-show added when Toyland Tours was converted into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too, so again, it would be very straightforward for it to be converted into the Dungeon. Of course, this is all speculation at this stage, The Alton Towers Dungeon might not even be here. However Merlin Magic Making Vans and skips have been spotted outside the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory building. So it suggests SOMETHING is going on in there!
You might suggest that the ‘Cloud Cuckoo Land’ area that the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory building lies in wouldn’t be suitable for The Alton Towers Dungeon. However, Hex is in very close vicinity, so that, and the adjacent Burger Kitchen Restaurant could be given a ‘Dungeon’ makeover.
Could the fact the Terror of the Towers maze wasn’t part of Scarefest this year suggest that The Alton Towers Dungeon is in the Towers themselves? Or will the Nemesis Sub Terra ride building be converted into a Dungeon ride? A lot of ‘The Dungeons’ do have drop tower rides..
Regardless of the location, it’s positive to see a new attraction, and investment at Alton Towers. If The Alton Towers Dungeon is in the CATCF building it would good to see this area of the park buzzing with crowds again!
It’s possible that The Alton Towers Dungeon will levy an additional charge – you have to pay extra for The Dungeons attraction at Warwick Castle. So it’s certainly not out of the realms of possibility.
Of course as soon information comes to light about the The Alton Towers Dungeon, I will of course update this page. For now though, we’ll just have to wait and see..
Where do you think The Alton Towers Dungeon will be? What would you like to see in it?
