Having children can take up a lot of your time, and any parent knows this. Regardless, this does not mean we cannot further our education, especially if it means getting a better job and income for our children. If you are thinking about studying as a parent, here are some tips and tricks to make your life just that little bit easier.

Having a Great Support Network

If you have a great support network around you, studying can be a doddle. This can be anyone from family, friends, your partner and even nursery and schools. Anywhere that you can take your child to which they can enjoy is a win-win situation. Perhaps they may enjoy a breakfast club at school, or an after-school sporting club. Find out what your school offers, and you may find that you have a little extra time each week before the school run. For when big exams are coming up, ensure you have adequate babysitters to study. If this is something you want to do, your family and friends will help however they can.

Studying Online

For some parents, being able to study for a degree completely online is a blessing. Especially for those with younger children who cannot travel to campus as they have their children through the day, an online degree is the best choice. This online mental health counseling degree online allows you to study completely from the comfort of your own home and offers support for all students. This program is made to ensure that you get the same education you would in a campus and is taught by leading professionals in mental health.

Have Your Own Workspace

Having a space that you can go just to focus on your degree is incredibly important for everyone, especially for parents. This needs to be a place where you will not be disturbed by your partner, children or the dog. Having it at home is ideal as you can fit work into nap times while taking your baby monitor, so you can still check on the kids. Ensure this workspace has everything you need to study, including stationery and snacks. You will get into your own routine when working, but having a space just for this can help focus the mind.

Taking Effective Notes

Taking notes while in class or watching an online lecture is the best way to ensure you make the most of your time. If you haven’t been in education for a while, it can be hard to know what to take from a lecture, but writing down every word will take a lot of time and isn’t the most effective way to learn. You may prefer writing notes by hand and this is proven to help your brain retain the information more than if you didn’t write any at all or typed it up.

Studying and being a parent is not impossible, if it is something you really want to do, you will find a way to make it happen.
