2019 is finally here. It’s that time of the year when new resolutions are made. Of all the resolutions that are made, there is one that is on the list for everyone and that is saving money. The New Year comes after people have spent all their money during the festive season to impress friends and loved ones. Most people accept the reality after they realize that they have many bills that need to be paid. If you are in this league, you can still apply the tips outlined below and start saving tons of money.
1. Share Rides
If you are among the people that use cabs regularly, it’s advisable you consider sharing rides. This is because it’s much affordable than take a private ride. The good thing is that most taxi hailing apps, including Lyft and Uber allow their customers to travel in groups. If live close to neighbours that commute daily to work, you can ask them to join you because the taxi company will only charge one individual. In fact, the government usually reserves a special lane for people that share rides, meaning you will be spared from the trouble of going through heavy traffic.
2. Use Coupons
Coupons allow you to buy items at a discounted price. They are also used when paying for services. Fortunately due to advancements in technology, coupons are now available in electronic format. You don’t therefore need to print them like before. Moreover, there are websites that collect coupon codes from all over the internet and store them on their platform so that they can be accessed by their visitors. You can therefore use such coupons to ensure you pay less for the things that you buy frequently. For instance, those who are trying to quit smoking can take advantage of cheap vaping deals that are posted every day.
3. Rent out Part of your Home
Instead of living in a large apartment on your own, you should consider renting out some of the rooms. Since the demand for housing is always on the rise, you are guaranteed of finding someone that needs a place to stay. In fact, the part that you rent out can even fetch you money that’s enough to pay for the entire house, leaving you with a considerable profit margin.
4. Use Energy Efficient Home Appliances
Appliances that are not energy efficient cause your utility bill to skyrocket. You can reduce your monthly bill by buying appliances that use very little energy. Such appliances have a energy star mark on the side. In addition to that, you should also ensure that you install energy saving bulbs in your home and also insulate the windows and doors. When the doors and windows are insulated, your heating costs go down considerably because much of the heat doesn’t escape through broken windows and doors.
5. Buy Second Hand Items
Most people assume that secondhand items are meant for poor people in the society. That’s damn wrong and far from reality. In fact, there is no point of spending a lot of money to get a brand new item when you can spend much less by purchasing one that has been used. All you have to do is ensure that the item is still in good shape. For instance, a new book costs more money than a used copy of the same book. The content that you will find in the two books is actually the same.
6. Draft a Budget
Most people spend more than they earn because they don’t have a budget to guide them. You should therefore create a budget of how you will be spending money on a daily basis and stick to it. You can even download an app to help you in keeping your expenses in check. With an app, you will be notified when your spending has gone through the roof. And as added bonus, you should avoid paying for your purchases using a credit card because it encourages you to spend money that you have not yet earned. This ensures that you will not be haunted by credit card debts.
