Looking after children and providing for all of their needs can feel like a full-time job in itself, so it can sometimes seem impossible to do anything else on top of managing your role as a parent. In particular, doing housework can be difficult to manage when you’re looking after children, especially if you have younger children, toddlers or babies who need your attention constantly. Luckily, there are some simple things which you can do to make keeping on top of the housework a little easier; so, to help you out, here are four tips for getting housework done when you have kids.

Utilise a baby monitor

Even if your kids are starting to grow up, you can still utilise the power of the baby monitor! As much as you might try, you can’t keep your kids in your sights 24/7, and it’s almost impossible to do when you have chores you need to get done. However, with the help of a baby monitor, you can keep track of your kids while you’re in other rooms getting the housework sorted, giving you some peace of mind that they’re okay so that you don’t have to worry.

Create a schedule

If you’re struggling to balance all of the things you have to get done on a day to day basis, you might find it useful to create a schedule so that you can have a specific plan in mind and keep your days organised. For example, you might decide to plan your days down to the hour, and schedule in everything from preparing the kids lunches, to ironing school uniforms. Start by making a list of all the things you need to get done in the week, and then you can assign certain days for each of the tasks until everything is accounted for.

Use tools to help you

There are so many great household inventions that can help you to do housework so that you don’t have to do it all by hand. For example, dishwashers take away the need for you to spend ages at the sink washing every single item by hand, and should they break all you need to do is consult a dishwasher repair service. You might also find it useful to invest in something like an automated vacuum cleaner, which can take care of cleaning the floors around the house so that you don’t have to!

Get the whole family involved

It can be really difficult to do all of the housework by yourself, especially if you’re trying to find ways to keep your children busy and entertained as well. However, there is nothing stopping you from covering both issues by getting the whole family involved in the housework. That way, you’ll know that your children are doing something constructive with their time, and you won’t be forced to do everything all by yourself. Plus, you can make the chores more exciting by turning it into a game or a challenge with incentives for your children so that they feel motivated to be more productive.
