Since the dawn of humanity, certain forms of social activity have remained part of the human traditions of work and productivity, yet in the modern era, almost every type of work is expected to be automated. With some of the more tedious tasks in the world of work left to computers and machines, it’s for humans and their social skills to offer value in the people-related jobs of the future. Being in possession of some information about changes in the job market can help you make better futuristic career choices – and this article is all about how you can shape your skills in order to be most employable into the future of automated work that is to come.

Innovation and Automation

Innovation has become a force that is directing every aspect of people’s lives. Combined with automation, the result of technological change is that many jobs that require regular and repetitive steps will simply be taken over by robots. That does not have to be bad news: it also means people will have more space to do less boring jobs, and more leisure time as a result. But, while the future is certainly about innovation and automation, it is also about people, and the skills they’ll always have that machines don’t.

Human-Only Skills

Machines can’t grasp the human experience: they can’t show empathy nor understand our complicated moods and tempers that constitute the very essence of human existence. A wonderful example of where human skills are most important is in the world of medical care and social care – where your people skills can make someone’s life happier. That’s why studying for a director of nursing overview is such a future-facing job – one that simply cannot be automated. Human-related jobs can require training, but they are based on your people skills at base – to help turn people’s lives around.

Aging Populations

Fertility rates are falling in most advanced nations, and as such, a future-facing career might be one that cares for the old and infirm. As a nurse or medical care provider, it’s important that you have the skills to help this aging part of our population live with dignity and the level of care they require – and again, that’s why a career in medicine is so beneficial to both society and to yourself as a future-facing worker.

People Skills

Working in a people-related field can help you accumulate a very valuable and transferable set of skills – to better understand and communicate with people. Improving your people skills is a huge bonus within a number of careers, and can help you make a sideways move into new fields by boosting your confidence and your empathy – two crucial elements to your ability to interact with colleagues, customers, clients and managers in whatever career you choose.

People-related jobs are safe for the future, deeply rewarding, and always social. They provide you with the skills you need to make people happier and more comfortable, whether you’re caring for them or working with customers to ensure their satisfaction levels are high. As such, develop your people skills for a fulfilled career in the future.
