You have probably heard that breakfast is a meal you shouldn’t skip, even when you are on a diet. This meal should be plentiful and varied to give you a fresh start for the day. An ideal breakfast should contain fats, proteins, and complex sugars, usually found in cereals.

The human body is adapted to digest and use this combination of nutrients only in the morning. That’s good to know if you want to lose weight because what you eat for breakfast can’t make you fat, but encourages body fat release. Simply put, you’ll lose weight faster if you eat breakfast regularly (and healthy).
Because of the speed and ease of preparing, cereals are the choice of many for breakfast. Industrial products contain grains but also abound in simple sugars and additives, which are not beneficial to your health and weight. Cereals are a real thing for your body to wake up, but only if you healthily prepare them. One of the best ways to use grains is granola.

Don’t Skip the Fat

In general, granola is a mix of grains, nuts, and dried fruits, drizzled with some wet ingredients and sweeteners. You can buy it at the store, and it’s a better choice than most other ‘healthy’ meals. But if you want to enjoy a fresh meal full of flavor, make granola at home from what you have.

Use a mix of cereals of your choice, and as a sweetener, honey or maple syrup proved to be best. To better combine the ingredients, your mixture needs a wet ingredient. Some use water to reduce the number of calories in granola. But the water evaporates very quickly, without hydrating the grains. Hence, the result is mostly a pile of overbaked cereals without a taste.

Don’t omit fats from granola. It evaporates more slowly, and the dry ingredients absorb it slightly while baking at the same time. Opt for healthier fats. Choose those of neutral flavors, such as olive or sunflower oils, or any other that is low in saturated fats.

Follow the Order of Adding Ingredients

The ease of preparation of granola or healthy granola snacks is what sets this food apart from others. But even that simplicity implies a specific procedure and order of work. Although the fastest way of making this dish, it’s not a good idea to put everything in a bowl, stir, and bake – especially if you add egg whites to the granola.

Instead, mix all the wet ingredients separately first. Beat eggs, add fat and sweetener, and leave everything to sit. Separately mix the cereals and nuts, into which you will then pour the wet mix. In this way, everything will be blended well, and each grain will be coated, which will allow even baking and better taste.

Take care of how fast some ingredients are baked. For example, if you add almond or coconut flakes to the granola, be sure to mix them in half of the baking process. These tend to brown fast, and by doing this, you’ll avoid overbaking them.

A similar thing is with the other extras you add to the granola – dried or fresh fruit, cocoa puffs, grated coconut, and so on. These ingredients are best added to baked granola as soon as you get it out of the oven. For example, if you add fruit before baking, it will melt and become gooey. The taste may be nice, but the consistency will not.

Chop, Not Grind

Crunchy granola is a real explosion of flavor as you eat it. Because the point is in crunching. For consistency, the ingredients you add must be chopped, not ground. That way, you won’t get a dusty product that is more reminiscent of porridge. Here learn about common mistakes making cereals this way.

For faster chopping, you can use a chopper at the lowest speed. But don’t go more than two or three spins, because it’s not a matter of getting a powder but keep the dish consistency. If you already finely grind some ingredient, add it in baked granola.

Hurry shouldn’t be an excuse to skip the first daily meal. There are simple and yummy ways to start your day that can be prepared in just a few minutes. The thing is in good organization and the right mix of healthy ingredients.
