Planning a perfect road trip takes time and energy. Fortunately, such an activity is quite popular these days. It means that you can easily find lots and lots of help online when it comes to all your future arrangements. What’s great about it is that you can gather any information you need and make a deliberate decision. Oh, and in case you have never really traveled by car, you will need some guidance to make it happen.

One thing you should definitely think hard about is how to choose a perfect campsite for your nights. You can have several options here, from staying in established campsites to finding a place in the wilderness. Of course, if you wish to go with the latter, you have a lot to learn before the trip. See it for yourself! Here are a few basic tips on how to choose a campsite when traveling by car.

Paid campsites

Let’s start with one of the most popular and easy options – paid campsites. Now, the world is full of paid areas where you can set a camp for a few nights. This option certainly has its benefits. Safety is one of the main reasons many travelers pick this option over any other available.

An established campsite comes with certain rules, guidance, and safety measures, of course. For one, you are surrounded by people. It means that you don’t have to be alone at night in the wild, fearing every sound you hear. Besides, most camps like that provide basic security measures to make sure no uninvited visitors can come too close to your camp.

Also, most paid campsites won’t leave you without certain blessings of civilization. Usually, for the very least, you can count on picnic tables and some portable eco-toilets. Some campsites even go as far as establishing flush toilets, showers, electricity, and Wi-Fi. So, you can pick a camp depending on how close to nature you are willing or not willing to be. Also, different levels of services will come with different prices, so you have to consider the fees as well.

Overall, this camping option is certainly the most comfortable and easy one to have. Depending on the amount of money you are willing to spend, and your plans for the road, you can have a really good time at a paid campsite. However, if you want to spend more time away from people and all that luxury and closer to nature, it may not be your best option.

Dispersed Camping

Those who want to have a bit more rough experience while camping can search for dispersed camping spots. These camping sites are free of charge. You will have to do some proper research to find such sites in the area you are going to. Most often, dispersed camping places were once regular paid camps. However, there was no one to take control over with time, and those places became abandoned.

Hence, a dispersed camp can offer you a good territory to stay and set a tent. It can also have old picnic tables and a place where you can start a bonfire. However, you shouldn’t count on anything more than just that. It is a true sleeping in the wild experience. So be prepared to dig a hole every time you need to hide a used toilet paper, and be sure to put down every little coal in that fire you made.

Such sites are great for those who want to spend a few nights out in nature. A great advantage here is that you can find such a place before your trip. Thus, you won’t have to spend hours driving around, seeking a place to camp before the night finds you on the road.

Do without a campsite

Last but not least, you can stop your car wherever you feel like it and have a rest. This option is particularly great if you have a rooftop tent. This way, you don’t have to waste any time setting a tent. All you need to do is unzip the tent’s cover, open it up, and get it. So do seek some of the best rooftop tents online before your trip. Having one of those set on your car can save you a lot of time, energy, and worries in the future.

With a tent like this, any spot can become your camp for a few hours. You don’t have to worry about the weather, uneven surface, or potential crawling pests around you. It’s safe, warm, and comfortable.

When picking this option, make sure you won’t have any legal problems with spending a night in a camp of your own. Some states and cities have more restricted rules when it comes to camping outside established zones. It can also be the case if you travel in national parks and government-control territory. So do your research before you begin your trip.
