It is always tricky keeping the kids entertained when they are on their school vacations. The famous statement of being bored is never far away and as they get older seem to get faster and faster on the approach.
We are all forever looking for ways to think of new experiences or relive good old ones to make everyone happy and have a reasonably quiet life.
Although it is easy to plop them down in front of the TV and have them watching films or play video games, we are told that this is not good enough – though the kids themselves seem more than happy with this most of the time.
We have to get the kids out in the fresh air, try and make them do exercise. This makes it hard work for everyone, and in reality, the only ones getting the exercise and fresh air is the parent who is running around like a headless chicken.
However, there are different ways in which you can give your kids something new to try while you can sit on the sidelines and watch at a safe distance.
Ice skating
If you are within reach of an ice rink, this could be a brilliant way to spend a few hours, yeah sure, it’s not in the open air, but it’s definitely exercising. It will give the kids a new experience if they have not been before, maybe even a new interest.
It would be something else to talk about. If you can get together with other families, it could be a fantastic afternoon. The kids are having fun skating around, and the parents sat on the sidelines catching up on the local gossip while drinking cups of coffee.
Basketball training
If your kids are interested in basketball, try the basketball training academy. This could be a fantastic opportunity to have fun and learn some basketball skills from real professionals. It could be an excellent way for your kids to make new friends and enjoy themselves with regular camps and sessions.
Art and crafting
If your kids are more art and crafty and not the running around hot and sweaty types, that’s ok too. There are plenty of clubs that specialise in the arts and crafts for young kids right the way through to adulthood.
These clubs include from the basic make and do through to the fine art and painting in oil and acrylic paints. From t-shirt design to bag design, it can all be great fun to let their minds soar and get a new hobby that can carry on for many years to come.
Final thoughts
So ideas to keep the kids entertained and away from that game controller, out of the house, and maybe even wearing themselves out.
Ice skating if you have a nearby facility or rink, you only have to hire the skates, which you should be able to do on-site, and the kids go off to have fun. Basketball training can be great fun while meeting new kids, making new friends, and getting top tips from professional basketball coaches.
Or, for the kids who are not quite as sporty, there are always the make and do clubs, where new
ideas are welcomed, and budding designers and artists alike can blossom.
