Everyone has experienced tummy upset at some point in life, and it isn’t a pleasant experience. Whether you’re feeling bloated, nauseous, or experiencing sharp and painful cramps, all you want is for the feeling to pass and to get back to normal. This level of discomfort is the same for animals, but it isn’t as easy for them to communicate to you if they are having issues. Instead, you might notice that they aren’t eating as much, are passing more gas, vomiting, or experiencing diarrhoea. If you’re a dog owner who can see that your dog is suffering from an upset stomach, here are some tips to help ease their digestion and find a solution to the problem.

Make Sure They Are Being Fed Properly

A good place to start is making sure that your dog is being fed the right portion sizes and is eating at regular times each day. You should also avoid giving them too many treats or scraps from your dinner plate, as this could result in them gaining weight or causing indigestion. If you think that your dog is overeating or doesn’t appear to have a good mealtime routine, try to change it and see if that helps.

Elimination Test

Another reason why your dog might be struggling with an upset stomach is due to a food allergy. Changing the brand of dog food you feed them, including treats, or changing the ingredients you use if you make their food yourself could help you figure out what is causing their stomach problems. Once you know what it is that they seem to be reacting to, you can make sure that that is no longer part of their diet.

Use Supplements

Another way you can help to ease your dog’s digestive system is by getting a daily digestive supplement for dogs. These probiotics will help to promote easier digestion and stomach health which will help your dog feel more comfortable and hopefully reduce how often they get an upset stomach.

Make Sure That They are Hydrated

Dehydration can make your dog very ill, and it can also contribute to problems with constipation and other digestive issues as well. To help your dog’s stomach function properly and keep the rest of their body healthy, you must make sure that they are drinking enough water each day. Always put out a fresh bowl of water at mealtimes, and when you are taking them on walks, have a bottle of water with you that they can use to help quench their thirst.

Visit the Vet

If you have tried a few things at home and still can’t figure out what the issue is, you should see your vet as soon as possible. Hopefully, an upset stomach won’t be anything too severe, but your dog might need worming treatments, or have another illness that requires medical attention. If your dog is suffering from severe vomiting or diarrhoea, call for an emergency vet appointment immediately.

If you want to help ease your dog’s upset stomach, use these tips and see if they can help you figure out what the cause is.
