The cold winter season is a time for celebration, and during this festive time, it’s important to plan an incredible getaway. Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape or want to spend some quality time with your family, I’ve compiled a list of spectacular places that will be perfect for any occasion.
#1 New York, USA
Regular readers of this blog will know how much we LOVE New York at any time of the year. During the winter I feel like it’s at it’s most magical – it was perfect for our wedding! Once the Ice Rink and Christmas market are set up at Bryant Park, you really know it’s Winter!! The rink provides stunning views of Manhattan’s skyline, making it a perfect setting for catching up with friends. Additionally, you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate (or perhaps a mulled wine) and some delicious food while you’re at it.
Don’t forget to go and see the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center – it will definitely beat the Christmas tree you have in your local high street. There’s also another ice rink here! You’re never far from an Ice Rink in New York in the Winter!

#2 St Moritz, Switzerland
St Moritz is known for being a luxurious ski resort in Switzerland, but the destination also provides visitors with plenty of other things to do during the winter. The Swiss Alps are one of Europe’s most popular skiing destinations as well as one of the most spectacular natural wonders. If you’re a new skiier or a dab hand, then you’ll find the right course for you at St Moritz!
If you plan on visiting St Moritz this holiday season, make sure that you visit Corviglia, where you can enjoy skiing or boarding down an incredible mountain range. Additionally, there are opportunities for horse-drawn sleigh rides and tobogganing, making it perfect for families looking to get outside together.
#3 Auckland, New Zealand
Once you get tired of winter sports, Auckland offers plenty of other opportunities to have fun. The city is well-known for being incredibly beautiful and has a lot to offer visitors throughout the year! If you’re looking for some summer activities during your trip, then head down to Mission Bay, where many different options are available.
For example, you can go kayaking or paddle boarding in the ocean waters or rent bicycles if you prefer biking instead! In addition, there are numerous cafes and restaurants to enjoy food from, making it a perfect opportunity for spending time with family or friends! The cold winter season is the ideal occasion to get out of town and explore new places. If you’re looking for an incredible destination that will be sure to welcome you with open arms, then look no further than this spectacular option!
#4 Cologne, Germany
One of the best things to do in Cologne during the winter is to take advantage of all that Cologne Cathedral offers. The magnificent building can be seen from miles away and offers stunning architecture inside as well! Visitors who plan on visiting Cologne this holiday will also have an opportunity for some incredible shopping experiences, whether it’s at one of Germany’s famous Christmas markets or simply around town.
If you take a taxi outside of the city centre, you could make a trip to Phantasialand – Their Wintertraum event is stunning – theme park rides, Christmas decorations, and so much to see!
Additionally, there are numerous cafes where you can enjoy traditional German delicacies such as sausages and gingerbread cookies. Lastly, make sure not to leave without trying a delicious wurst (sausage) which makes for a perfect snack after exploring one of the city’s beautiful parks! Cologne provides visitors with endless opportunities throughout its magical winter season!

The winter season is perfect for exploring some of Paris’s most iconic landmarks. Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the city’s oldest buildings and has an incredible history that you can learn more about during your visit! Additionally, there are countless museums to explore, such as
The Louvre, which offers a fascinating look into Western art. Visitors looking to take part in shopping experiences will also feel right at home due to all of Paris’ famous boutiques on Rue St Honore or Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
