G has spent a lot of time ‘playing out’ today with a new friend she’s just made on the next street. It’s nice for her to start making some friends in the area as most of her school friends are on the opposite side of town. This particular friend, we’ll call Ruby-Sue, is particularly demanding..
Me – ‘Did you have fun with Ruby-Sue?’
G – ‘ Yeah, I did.. She wants me to get her a birthday present, her birthday is August the 2nd’
Me – ‘Er……’
G – ‘She wants a phone, just like mine..’
*G then proceeds to look at me like it would be entirely reasonable for us to buy a phone for a child she’s known for hours*
Me – ‘No G.’
