SnapChat was a craze I was a little late to the party with. The general consensus from people using it was

“Yeah, SnapChat.. I keep getting sent cock pictures by random men!”

It didn’t seem very appealing..

After time I was hearing that it was actually okay, and a bit of a laugh – so, I downloaded it!

mza_6128636850062687299For those of you who don’t have a clue what the hell I’m talking about, SnapChat is a chat app. It differs from most other chat apps because you ‘chat’ through the medium of pictures (that you take at the time – you can’t send an existing one), or through short videos. You can give these pictures and videos a ‘life span’ (anything between 1 and 10 seconds). Then when the recipient receives them and opens them, the timer will count down and once the time is up, the picture or video is gone forever (perhaps – more on that in a bit!). You’re also able to send a short message, or draw on top of the picture too.

The idea is the messages are indeed ‘instant’ once the timer has run out apparently they cease to exist on the SnapChat server and are removed from your phone. Although apparently they (might) still be hidden in the depths of your phone’s storage – but not easily visible. Whilst this kind of instant message is fun, and is probably used for ‘naughty’ purposes mostly – I’ve really enjoyed using it for ‘fun’ purposes!

Each day I’m getting lots of random snaps and videos from lots of my friends, real ones and ‘virtual’ ones, and it’s a real giggle – I just love the random nature of it – you don’t know what you’re going to get, from Tasha calling me a cunt over a video, to Dan sending me a picture of his obscene driving speeds. Then, it’s all gone. You can screenshot whatever you receive, but it will inform the sender you have done so (although it’s not entirely foolproof!) So don’t send anything too racy to someone you don’t really know! I’ve also noticed that occasionally it will misinform you that a screenshot has been taken, which could be awkward!

Also, you can set it so you can either receive snaps from anyone, or you have to ‘be friends’ with them first, meaning you won’t get rude pictures from randoms. You can also tie your account to your mobile number so friends will be able to see if you’re on there when they allow the app access to their contacts.

I think the only problem I’ve faced with it is the volume of the videos. If your phone is on silent you invariably forget and find yourself quickly trying to turn the volume up whilst listening to it, meaning you miss the content. Then once the video is over it’s gone, and you find yourself reply ‘yeah I missed what you said..’. Wonder if there should be an ‘Instant Replay’ function where you get an one extra view of a video (within say 5 seconds of it ending) to be able to turn the volume up quickly? Dunno – it’s a bit of a pain, but probably one of the few negatives.

Snapchat is entirely free to use (for now!) and I think it’s a pretty fun app to mess around with! If you fancy ‘chatting’ feel free to add me – kiphakes – and we’ll ‘talk’ 🙂

hmmm… so I can’t get random men sending me pictures of their love wands… well, that’s always disappointing… lol 😉

Never used it, far too scary, I think its more people screen shooting the photos that keep them alive 😛
