One of the most intriguing and surprising announcement from MWC 2018 has to be the Nokia 8110. That might sound familar to you – why? Because it’s an OLD phone. Geeks might remember it from The Matrix, others might remember it for its ‘slide down to answer’.

I remembered and LOVED this phone the first time around. My housemate Colin was absolutely OBSESSED with The Matrix – he had a custom made leather jacket like the one Morpheus had, and this phone. The Nokia 8110 is part of the ‘Originals’ family, which is rebooting old Nokias with modern tech. Last year they did the Nokia 3310, and now it’s the turn of the ‘banana phone’.

This is a FEATURE phone – not a smartphone. It doesn’t have a 13MP Camera and a 4K screen. It’s got a 2MP Camera and a 2.4″ QVGA display. However, it’s got a standby battery life of.. wait for it – 25 days! It’s not all low tech either. It’s got 4G, Calendar sync, GMail and Outlook Sync and a WiFi hotspot. You can combine the essential capabilities of your smartphone with the battery life and durability of a feature phone. Plus it has a few apps too, so you can catch up on Facebook. Of course the Nokia 8110 wouldn’t be complete without the ‘Snake’ game either.

It will be available in a traditional black, or a more exciting ‘Banana Yellow’. The full specs are below –

Whilst it is a bit of a fun reboot it could be the perfect phone for an older relative. Heck I love it just for sheer retro factor. Whilst it’s not the most technology packed phone out of the Barcelona show, it could be the most fun!
