Every year and every season hosts a new trend. After a while, staying fashionable can become expensive. It can also feel like a chore. However, everyone wants their house, and their wardrobes, to remain stylish; so, they take it upon themselves to keep redecorating and refurbishing their humble abodes, so they’re no longer ‘humble.’

As we enter 2020 –  perhaps it’s time to consider revamping your kitchen? It’s something we’re considering at the moment actually. With this in mind, I’ve been looking around for some of the trends we’re likely to see this year, and how you can perhaps incorporate them in your home! I’ve come up with 5 Ways to Improve your kitchen in 2020, and most of them don’t require masses of money.

Replace your Flooring
Something that probably gets the most use in your kitchen is the flooring, it’s REALLY important to get this right. We’re looking at replacing our dull stone floor with something a little more modern. You can get ‘laminate’ style flooring that goes together with a ‘click’. A lot of them will have a ‘Scratch Guard’ layer allows for extra protection against scratches. Ensure it’s also completely waterproof too, which is needed for keeping it clean, and mopping up any splashes or spills.

Copper and Brass Accents
Say goodbye to chrome, and hello to copper and brass. Over the years, chrome has become tired, and instead, people are looking towards other metals for some modernisation to their kitchens. Replace the taps; consider brass or copper cabinet handles; substitute chrome legged barstools. Copper and brass accents work best with neutral tones; therefore, they’re best to avoid with loud and colourful kitchens.

New Windows
This might push the budget a little, however, changing the windows can really lift a room, and alter the look dramatically. Consider binning the UPVC and looking at replacement sash windows. These look great in the kitchen and are super easy to fling open when things are getting hot and steamy! If your kitchen has a country cottage vibe, they will match perfectly, and you could pair them up with some vintage shutters to finish the look!

Open Shelves
Kitchens have a traditional genetic makeup. Usually, you’ll find top and bottom cabinets; counter-tops; and appliances. However, cabinets can seem bulky at times, and if you own beautiful dinnerware, you may wish to have them on display. Replace some of your cabinets with open shelving, and showcase your bowls, dishes and glassware, however, keep a few cabinets so you can hide cans and bottles if you don’t have a separate pantry.

Colour-Blocked Kitchens
Colour-blocked kitchens are a continuing trend from 2019. Fashionable homeowners have used bright colours to help distinguish certain spaces, and highlight pieces of furniture or whole walls against neutral backdrops. In 2020, the colours to consider are green, pink, mint, purple and blue. You can either paint your cabinets or you can fully commit and paint the entire kitchen in one colour – just remember, pick a colour you like – it’s hard to go back once you’re committed!
