Alton Towers Resort have JUST announced that the have submitted a planning application for a brand-new CBeebies Land Rollercoaster which they plan to open in 2026 – the code name is Project Sunshine. If approved this new junior coaster will be perfect for the youngest thrill-seekers and their families to enjoy together.

The plans submitted to the Staffordshire Moorlands Council Website show that the Postman Pat : Parcel Post ride is to be SCRAPPED to make way for Project Sunshine, AKA the new CBeebies Land Rollercoaster.

Before you continue reading, I want to make it explicitly clear that this is all currently rumours and speculation – I haven’t been given confirmation from any official sources at Alton Towers Resort, through the Content Creator Programme, or otherwise..

Where will the New CBeebies Land Rollercoaster go?

Because space is at a premium within CBeebies Land, it’s inevitable that a ride will have to be removed to make way for it.. And that ride is Postman Pat : Parcel Post. It’s unclear if it will open at all for the 2025 theme park season, although with Project Sunshine due to open in 2026 – it feels unlikely it will.

Postman Pat Parcel Post will be removed for the new CBeebies Land Rollercoaster

This ride opened back in 2014 and has been popular in CBeebies Land since, it used to be Old MacDonald’s Tractor Ride which operated from 1995 to 2013 (when this area was known as Old MacDonald’s Farm).

It actually takes up a fair bit of space, ideal for a family coaster to fit on – you can see the rough area this ride occupies on the map below..

What kind of ride will the New CBeebies Land Rollercoaster be?

Whilst the plans show no specifics at time of writing, or a manufacturer named, I’ve heard rumours that there could well be a Zierer Force Rollercoaster heading to Alton Towers Resort. These rides are designed for riders aged 3 and upwards, which is ideal for a CBeebies Land Rollercoaster, so it’s certainly a possibility. However, once again this is all rumour and speculation – so don’t get TOO excited!

What do the plans for Project Sunshine show?

Admittedly, not a great deal – you get an idea of exactly where everything will be, and a rough layout of the ride, as well as the layout of the station / maintenance building – but there’s not much else. There are mentions of ‘theming structures’ around the new CBeebies Land Rollercoaster, and the ride itself is a simple loop that passes through the station building. There’s also a plan showing exactly what is being removed to make way for it. To save you having to rummage around the Staffordshire Moorlands website, I’ve put the salient plans below.

What CBeebies Character will the CBeebies Land Rollercoaster be themed on?

Once again, no official confirmation has been given by the park at this time, and is unlikely to be just yet, but there are strong rumours that the CBeebies Land Rollercoaster COULD be themed on Bluey.

Bluey is a hit with the CBeebies audience, and one of the hottest children’s IPs at the moment. This coupled with the fact that Bluey is already in CBeebies Land as a character coupled with the fact you can stay in a Bluey Themed Room at the CBeebies Land Hotel suggest it’s a strong possibility. Especially as there aren’t any Bluey themed rides at the moment too..

Remember – None of this is CONFIRMED

As I’ve mentioned a LOT a lot of the above is NOT fact or indeed OFFICIAL at this time, especially the ride manufacturer, or the exact theme of the CBeebies Land Rollercoaster. It is clear that it will be where Postman Pat’s Parcel Post stands currently.

This does make me wonder what will happen to the ‘World of David Walliams’ – with Project Horizon, the indoor based ride that has had planning permission granted over that area of the park.. With all the focus on CBeebies Land in 2026.. Will that area close at the end of the 2025 season so construction can take place? It feels like the David Walliams IP will be due to run out soonish, and that area of the park feeling a little lost now with no major rides pulling people over there.. Who knows?

Please consider this post as unfinished, and I’ll update when any further details come to light..
