The kind folks at Quadrille Publishing sent me a copy of ‘The Kids Only Cookbook‘ by Sue Quinn to review, it seems daft an adult reviewing a ‘Kids Only Cookbook’ so I gave the book to G and got her to pick a recipe. Loz procured all the ingredients we needed and G set to work.
The video above took nearly all afternoon to film as the ribs needed two hours to marinade and then nearly two hours to cook! I’m really pleased with it though and G really enjoyed making the video, and scoffing the ribs too!
As an adult looking at the book, I think it’s pretty good, I’m not 100% sold on the layout, it’s a bit all over the place, I found it quite difficult to follow. It’s got a sort of ‘scruffy’ vibe to it, which is obviously designed to be appealing to kids, but I wasn’t that keen, it sent my designer OCD tics into overdrive! The ‘Epic Fail Alerts’ dotted around some of the recipes were a bit cringey too, again, obviously trying to be ‘down with the kids’.
On the whole though it’s pretty decent, G loves it, and I imagine it’ll be out regularly to make whatever she fancies. I might film the ‘Tin Can Ice Cream’ Recipe in action as it looks, and sounds intriguing! 🙂
A great vid! It was lovely to watch G follow the recipe and create the dish and shows how it works for kids – which is so important!
I’d love to know the epic design fails though 😛
Hah – well if you follow the link, you can view some example pages on Amazon with their ‘look inside’ thing..
