For those feeling a little braver and ideally over eight years old, there is a slightly ‘darker’ attraction – ‘Curse of the Lost Tomb’.

It’s an actor led maze that tells the story of a Lost Tomb where explorers are encouraged to delve into the secret lost tomb of Genghis Khan, full of mystery and riddles. Tucked away in the depths of ‘Wild Asia’, this fantastic attraction is a mash up of a traditional horror maze (albeit child friendly), the Crystal Maze and Knightmare. It’s a little rough around the edges, sure, but the actors inside all had their roles and lines absolutely nailed and seemed to enjoy the experience.

It’s great fun and a wonderful introduction to younger Adventurers to the world of ‘scare mazes’ – it’s jumpy in places, and there’s a smidge of scariness, but – nothing that your average junior will be phased by. Smaller children will be admitted, but under the warning that they cannot be carried and once you’ve had the ‘wash-room’ pre-show there is no way to leave.

Both attractions are perfect for Chessington’s target audience, and are a lot more family friendly than those you’d find at the Thorpe Park Fright Nights. It’s nice to see some effort put it into such temporary attractions, and I’m sure they’ll be popular.

I think the only disappointing part of our trip was the fact the Terror Tomb and Safari Skyway are now shut for the rest of the season. The Bubbleworks is looking sadder with each visit, so much in there is broken, with sections in silence – it REALLY needs some love – hopefully in the closed season..??
