A few weeks ago I wrote about trying something a little different. I decided I wanted to try my hand at being a streamer – I’d literally just set up my Twitch Channel. I honestly didn’t know what I was doing, how it would work, or if anyone would actually be there when I switched on my stream.
I still don’t really know what I’m doing – but – it’s working and my word, THERE ARE PEOPLE watching. Within a week, I’d become a Twitch Affiliate with over 25 Subscribers, now I’m on my way to getting 150 Followers and 50 Subscribers before Christmas. Which, I think, is pretty good. I’m really enjoying it, I’m streaming once a day, usually between 9am – 10am, and I have a rough structure to the show. There’s an intro, some ‘talking point’ topics, and an ending. The topics aren’t set in stone, and sometimes change and morph depending on the conversation with chat pans out.
Some days I can fly through the topics and panic I haven’t thought of more – on others, I might only do one topic and the chat has lurched off into some very random avenues. For someone who is usually tied to routine and structure, it’s pretty exhilarating just to completely improvise and work with some VERY unusual topics. I’m finding myself using parts of my brain that haven’t really worked in ages. I can’t stop or pause for too long, I don’t want to be staring at the audience like Dora the Explorer waiting for the Spanish translation. What surprises me is – I can actually do it!
I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved so far, and I think the streaming might be my wisest career move since quitting my job and becoming self-employed.
This silly idea of mine will only work if people are there and joining in. I understand that Twitch is a new platform to a lot of you and a little weird. I made a short video on the stream the other day explaining what Twitch is, and how it works.
I guess what I’m asking is, if you read my blog, or like my stuff on Twitter or Facebook – Join Us. I’m building a collective of amazing people who just like to spend some time sitting and having a chat and forgetting the madness in the world – usually with a cup of tea. I think we have something really fun, and special, and I would really love to have more of you there to join us.
So if you have a moment or two – weekdays from 9am – drop in and see what’s going on. If you enjoy it, hit the ‘Heart’ to follow me, heck, you can even ‘Subscribe‘ for a modest fee and help support this crazy endeavour. I want to expand, do more, stream more and make it even more interactive. I can really see this going somewhere – I’ve already made a ‘Wish List‘ of stuff I want to plow my money into to make the channel better. I’ve even got plans to get Nick Hutson to compose some music for the channel.
So, all that I need now is you.
