Maintain Physical Fitness
If you were an athlete at any point in your life, you know the valuable benefits of good physical health. The end of a professional or university athletic career does not mean the end of physical activity at all. On the contrary, you should continue a proactive exercise regimen regardless of your athletic endeavours. You can choose from any number of sports to enhance your fitness regimen. Joining a local gym or signing up for a streaming membership from the comfort of your home are both viable options depending upon your interests and available time.
Be Active with Your Family
If you have a partner or children, set a positive example and get outside. Show them how to connect with sports and nature by going on a bike ride on a local path. Make a fun outing experience by bringing along a healthy picnic and a football or frisbee. Organise a game in a local park. Play some “I Spy” games as you ride and have fun making new memories together. Stay fit and active when you’re on holiday together, as well.
Coach a Local Team
If you are a former player with experience on your side or simply a fan with knowledge of the game, consider giving your time and energy to a local team. Quite often, there are youth teams in need of an adult to volunteer their time, skillset, and caring presence to help coach. You can become a co-coach with another interested adult or rotate with the player’s parents.
There are so many opportunities to give back to your community. In the process of helping out, you will reap the rewards of volunteering. You may not be looking for it, but coaching will give you a connection to the youth in your community along with a renewed sense of youthfulness for yourself. You get to exercise along with the team and improve your leadership skills. Meeting others along the way and maintaining those positive relationships will make it all the more meaningful.
Here is a quick video on the merits of coaching.
